Vegetation from sites in riparian sectors around Mono Lake were gathered and entered into a database which allowed them to be related to data from nest plot surveys of habitating songbirds.
Purpose:
The combined data in the database can be used to investigate relationships between habitating birds and their habitats.

Species identifications were made in consultation with Point Reyes Bird Observatory staff. Plant heights and widths were recorded to the nearest decimeter. Tree height was measured to the nearest meter. Litter depth was measured to the nearest millimeter.

Site locations were recorded with use of a GPS unit.

Process_Description:
All site points were pre-chosen by the agency. At each site, four quadrants would be created, using 4 ropes 5m long. The resulting quadrants made a circular formation about the center point and Quadrant 1 was always in the northeast orientation with all the other quadrants going clockwise in order. In each quadrant a data sheet was filled that took account for all the species of vegetation, canopy density, litter depth, and vegetation composition (tree, shrub, forb or moss). After this quadrant was completed, 3 reference points for which the same proceedure was to be done were chosen by a random compass spin to a certain bearing and then going to two other points 120 degrees away.
