During the winter season WMRS staff carry out renovation and maintenance projects at OVL, depending on time and availability of funds. Below are examples of projects carried out in the winter of 2010-11. click on photos to enlarge

| With the help of CDF inmate crews, we cleared about 1000' of perimeter brush. 3/18/11 |

| New sealed heat pump A/C system for Manis Lab. This high-efficiency system allows the lab to be better sealed against dust entry. 3-18-11 |
We replaced the old ceiling registers for the A/C systems in the Main dining hall, Dorms 1, and Dorms 2-5. The old registers obstructed the flow and reduced system efficiency. 3-18-11 |

| We cleaned and renovated the OVL shop, including a new electrical breaker panel, new wiring, new overhead lighting, and new shelving for building supplies. Most building supplies not in immediate use were relocated to the storage locker facility (see right for example). 3/18/11 |
Electrical supply storage locker (#14 in storage locker facility) was organized and cleaned up. Smaller supplies were organized in plastic boxes to keep out dust and moisture since many storage lockers are not completely waterproof. 3-18-11 |

We newly installed electrical outlets running along the base of the curved roof on both sides of the north aisle, along with two new 240V outlets, one in each facility, and a new electrical breaker panel. We found a semi-buried water tap at the facility that we plan to preplace with a freeze-proof hydrant. |

| We cleaned out the 14' high locker facility central aisles. They are tall enough to accommodate the snowcat and other large items. 3-18-11 |
We resurfaced and repainted the exterior of Dorm 1 in December-January. 3-21-11. The interior was re-done in previous winters and the new A/C system (at right in photo) installed in 2007. |

| We trimmed many OVL cottonwood trees, including hiring out this hazardous situation over the Geology trailer. Our staff trimmed several other trees. 3-18-11 |
2011 We completely replaced the hot and cold water supply plumbing in the Pace lab (the main quonset building). It is now much easier to drain for winter shutdown, and the water is much cleaner so that fixtures don't clog up. |

| We replaced the south facing windows on the Pace Lab with modern windows. We also redesigned the shutter system. |
