Crooked Creek Computer Lab - description

Hardware: LAN switch connected to WMRS LAN in Bishop and Barcroft, via broadband wireless bridges, two desktop computers (see note below), printer, broadband wireless access point for laptops and otehr wireless devices.

Software:

  • MS-Office
  • ArcView 3.2, Spatial Analyst 2, and several other extensions installed. We don't have any GIS data (other than the ESRI-supplied datasets) on the machines, however, and trying to access our GIS data over the network from those machines at Crooked Creek would probably be pretty slow.

Comments: One of the machines is reasonably good (P4, 1 Gig RAM) but the other is old (PII) and slow. For demonstrate GIS using AV3.2 the machines should work fine. Using large grids such as mosaiced DEMs or imagery such as DOQs would work on the new machine but would be painfully slow on the older one.
